About Our Church

Vernon United Methodist Church has thrived in our township for 150 years. Throughout its long history, it has been a beacon of community service, help for people in need, and hope for the future. As we look forward to our next chapters, we are uplifted by the evidence of the work of God in our midst, and the meaningful, practical help that has been shared with so many in Sussex County as a result.

Our church now holds a service on Sundays at 10am with coffee hour to follow. We also stream our services on Facebook Live. Sunday School, Adult Bible studies are held each week to teach and encourage our members.

Vernon UMC is home to a number of community groups as well. Currently, AA , the Boy Scouts, and Cub Scouts use our building weekly. A community playgroup, “Mommy and Me” meets here a homeschool group, and there is an Adult Watercolor class every week as well, and a Community Breakfast Every second Sunday at 9am.

Our Food Pantry is going strong, as it has for decades. Thousands of families in Vernon and Sussex County have been helped by this volunteer ministry, which is available to all in need, regardless of their religious affiliations. With strong support from our congregation, our community, and local food stores, we are able to assist families with limited resources to meet their basic needs. The volunteer staff opens the doors of the Food Pantry Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week 9:30am-12:30pm.

The thrift store opened in the 1980s has become our Clothing Ministry. The volunteer staff opens the doors of the clothing ministry Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week 9:30am-12:30pm.
